“Your posse can lift you up or drag you down. You choose.”

This week I had the absolute honor and joy of speaking to more than 100 women about LOVE!

I thrive being in a group of women, don’t you? We are naturals at empathy and support. We nurture each other by sharing stories. “I’ve been there…”  “You poor thing…”  “You deserve more…” “Stay the course…” “There’s someone out there for you…”

We are great at lifting each other up and cheering each other on.

I call it the power of the posse.

I see it on retreats and in the virtual groups I lead. We gel. We connect. We cry. We laugh. We share old stories and big dreams.

We can create lasting bonds – women on the path to their next big adventure! It makes me think of “The First Wives Club” and “Thelma and Louise.” Know what I mean?

But…

Sometimes you can be in the wrong posse.

You find yourself talking about what’s NOT working.

You reinforce each other’s beliefs that love is hard or online dating is scary. It’s hard to change jobs, find your passion, or start a new career in midlife… (you name your belief)

There are no good men out there anyway and that it’s ok to be alone or in a loveless relationship.

That’s the poison posse.

Which posse are you in?

Reflect for a moment about who is surrounding you right now. Who do you lean on? Who has your back? Who is growing with you and lifting you up? And who is pulling you down?

As you grow, change, and evolve, the people who surround you need to change and evolve too. If you are lucky, one or two of them will be besties forever.

I have learned over the last five years that no one who succeeds in life travels this road alone. Who you surround yourself with is just as important as what you do, what you say and what you believe.

Thank YOU for being in my posse. It rocks my world whenever we are together, whether it’s in this email string, in a webinar or on retreat. I am so thankful that you are you.

As always, if this Wednesday Wisdom has hit a chord with you, comment below and let me know.
