I woke up at 5am – my mind sorting out the contents of my bathroom cabinets into the little designer drawers in my new bathroom. How will everything fit? I wonder.

I’m letting go. Letting go of the house. The memories. The marriage. And all of the stuff I’ve accumulated over the past 15 years … and more.

It’s freeing. Lightening.

I realized that holding onto ‘stuff’ is like eating too much and gaining too much weight. It’s a coping mechanism when things aren’t working.

HOLDING ON TO TOO MUCH STUFF GUMS UP THE WORKS OF THE SOUL AND SUFFOCATES THE SPIRIT. (click to tweet)

As I clean out closets, drawers, kitchen cabinets; (How many blenders do I need? When was the last time I consulted Bobby Flay in my kitchen?) As I dump, shred, donate and sell, I’m giddy with anticipation of what’s next.

I am past the point of accumulating. I don’t need to keep things. I don’t need to hold onto stuff. Just like I don’t need to hold onto the past.

As I let go of the books, the clothes, the dishes and glassware, I also let go of the judgments, the hurts, the pain, the old stories. I’m cleaning out the house and closing the door.

I’m writing a new chapter. It’s built on faith and courage; love and inspiration; growth and evolution.

It’s light, free, and it looks damn good to me.
