It’s no secret that I am huge fan of Ingrid Vanderveldt. A couple of years ago, I caught her TEDex talk, “The Art of Making the Impossible Possible.”

Her story resonates with me because it’s also my story. It’s every woman’s story who has a dream and has the courage to take risks and make it happen. I hope it will be your story too.

In her talk, Ingrid shares how she was awarded her first patent, built a billion dollar business and is now leading EBW2020 – a movement and organization she founded to empower women entrepreneurs and senior leaders to step into their fullest potential.

As a coach to smart and successful women,  I find the biggest hurdle is taking that first step.

Realizing your full potential is about believing in your own possibility, trusting in your inner wisdom and asking for what you want. But most of us aren’t trained this way. From a very young age we are conditioned by fear.

“Be a good girl.”

“Put others first.”

“Don’t take too much.”

Instead, you need to take risks, ask for more, and trust in your intuition rather than listen to the fearful advisor that has been in control – until now.

Here are four lessons from Ingrid Vanderveldt that can change the future trajectory of your career and your life.

  1. Embrace the power of belief – if you have had a rough road, this may be the biggest hurdle in your journey. To turn your dream into your reality, you need to BELIEVE that it’s possible. There’s no such thing as fate. Every moment is a choice. Anything is possible if you choose to believe it.
  2. Get yourself a mentor – stepping into a big dream is not for the faint of heart. Get yourself a good mentor who has a track record of success and who can guide  you and show you the ropes. Over the past four years I have had many mentors who have helped me rise to the next level.
  3. Get really comfortable with being uncomfortable. Stepping into possibility is a new muscle that maybe you haven’t worked out much before. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. What keeps you safe, keeps you small. Your inner mean girl is custom built to keep you comfortable in what you know. To do something bigger, to fully step into your power means at times, you will feel uncomfortable. Embrace it!
  4. Give it time. Whether you are birthing a new idea, a new company or a whole new you, change doesn’t happen overnight. Be patient. Allow for all you have learned to take root. Stay the course. Watch out for resistance. Make midcourse corrections. Watch your dream become your reality.

If you master the four points above, success is inevitable. Here’s to your success!
